To create a large volume of high quality, high-performing Source, Age and Health verified cattle that will achieve in the top 1/4 of all cattle from conception to cooler.
     

Setting The Bull Standards:

We are not breed oriented but breed for a specific type with end product specifications to target. Our sale targets are: 14 x 4 x 4

• 14 inch minimum RIBEYE indicating internal muscle. Our bulls have to produce high yielding carcasses.

• 4 percent MARBLING indicating fat in Ribeye muscles. USDA grades visual evaluation of Marbling as the primary component for carcass quality grading. We need Choice carcasses; 4% is average Choice, 4.8 is high Choice.

• 4 pound AVERAGE DAILY GAIN. Not only do we need desirable carcasses, but we have to have efficiency to get to our end point. Our bulls have the ability to gain fast and efficiently.

PVP Passport Program:

     USDA Process Verified Program for Source, Age, and Health.

What is PVP?   "Process Verified Program"   Process approved and audited by USDA ARC Branch.  Source Verified - from original Ranch of Origin. Age Verified - birth records from Ranch of Origin. Health Verified - Vaccination program at Ranch of Origin.

Why participate in a Process Verified Program? Add value to Beef that qualifies for specific domestic or export programs. Power Genetics Passport Program satisfies export requirements for Japan.

Why participate in the Power Genetics PVP Passport Program? 

• VALUE:  Program compliant  tags verifies to any buyer they are getting value...not an empty promise. RELIABILITY: Power Genetics is a proven USDA PVP program.
• NETWORK: Ranchers, Feedlots and Packer add value for all involved in the Passport Program.
• DATA: Power Genetics has the ability to provide carcass data from vision scanners for genetic and marketing decisions at the ranch.

Do I have to market my cattle through Power Genetics? NO! With Power Genetics Passport Program ranch verification program, you can  verify your cattle and sell to any buyer looking for Source, Age and Health verified cattle. BUT, selling through Power Genetics & Big Blue Sale Barn's Internet Auction, is a great way to market your cattle to Power Genetics Licensed Feedyards.

What do I have to do to participate?

1. Provide documented calving records showing first calving date and a defined calving season.
2. Provide ownership documentation or prove identity of cattle via brand, tags, etc.
3. Provide health vaccination documentation.
4. Request initial on-site audit by a certified Power Genetics Agent or Marketing Specialist to become an Approved Supplier.

5. Decide your Marketing plan.

   Option 1:  If  Seller wishes to market with Power Genetics, Marketing Specialist will complete a Marketing Form and submit to Big Blue Sale Barn for listing on the next internet auction date. Or if requested, obtain a private bid from one of the PG Licensed Feedyards. When sold, Big Blue Sale Barn will issue a contract to Seller and Buyer. Marketing Specialist will arrange delivery from the ranch to the buyer. They will conduct weigh-up and transfer funds to the Seller. Cattle are EID & visually tagged with a blue program compliant tag if delivered to a PG Licensed Feedyard.  Group & Individual Data Reports are issued after the group is harvested at a cost of $2/hd

   Option 2: If Seller wishes to market outside of Power Genetics, their approved cattle must be tagged at the ranch with a program compliant Passport Program tag. Power Genetics offers an EID or EID/VID set. We also offer a NAIS compliant EID 840 Tag for those who have a Premise ID and wish to comply with COOL. Tags must be applied before first movement from ranch of origin.

   A Certificate of Program compliance will be sent to the producer. Once tagged, the producer may market the cattle as PVP verified for Source, Age and Health via any marketing venue they choose. Power Genetics will not be involved in any agreements between Buyer and Seller.

Why do I need carcass data if my calves are already bringing top dollar? 

1. Improve carcass merit. How do you know what to change if you don't know what you have?
2. Advertise carcass merit and health history when marketing.
3. Identify superior genetics and replicate.
4. Identify bottom end and cull.
5. $5 plus corn will increase the spread between high quality cattle and commodity cattle from $5/cwt to $15-$20/cwt.
