Nutrition Program

Nutrition Program Requirements:

Nutrition component consists of two phases; pre-wean and post-wean it is recommended that the pre-weaning specifications be followed.  It is required that the Passport Level 5 specifications, presented in the following Table be followed for the 45 post-weaning period.

Pre-weaning:  Free choice mineral provided to cow/calf pairs or a mineral creep feed supplied to the calves 45 days pre-weaning.  Providing adequate levels of complex trace minerals to the beef herd can enhance reproduction, improve herd health, and increase weaning weight of calves.

Passport Level 5 Weaning Program: Trace mineral nutrition is critical for status in calves entering the feed yard.  Having calves in adequate trace mineral status improves their ability to respond to vaccination programs and decreases the negative effects of stress that they will encounter.  In addition, calves with adequate trace mineral status show increased weight gain and improved feed conversion.

During the 45 day post-weaning period, a feed product or free choice mineral should be fed to calves so that the entire diet (hay, meadow grass or weaning ration) provides the nutrient specifications listed in the Table.  The free choice mineral or feed must contain Zinpro Corporation's Availa 4 at specified level.
